Ohio Clean MarinaGeneva Marina received the “Clean Marina” Certification from Ohio Sea Grant College in partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Soil and Water Conservation (Ohio Coastal Nonpoint Pollution Control Program), Office of Coastal Management (Ohio Coastal Management Program), and Division of Watercraft; Ohio Department of Health; Ohio Environmental Protection Agency; Ohio Department of Commerce, State Fire Marshall Division; U.S. Coast Guard; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Lake Erie Marine Trades Association, Greater Cleveland Boating Association, local health departments, local fire marshals, and marina and yacht club owners and managers. The Clean Marina program was developed to help educate marina, boatyard, and boat operators on the importance of protecting waterways and the environment. Participation in the program is voluntary and participants must meet stringent requirements in boat fueling, cleaning, maintenance, waste management, sensitive species management, and emergency response measures. Keep Your Bilge Area CleanWe will continue to carry a product at the marina called Biosok for those who would like their bilge area to remain clean. The sock is tied in place by the engine and releases good microorganisms that attract oil and other pollutants which then return to the sock. The "sock" can be safely disposed of. Within just a few days of testing in the marina, the area around the sock appeared clean. Please stop by to watch a video of this amazing product. Marina Improvements ContinueAll the work on the bike trail is complete. All work on the AT & T cell tower is complete. New tower lights were place on the cell tower and the old cell tower will be removed. The marina will continue replacing dock boards each year. Please exercise caution by wearing shoes on the dock instead of going barefoot and exercise caution when wearing flip flops. Our Wi-Fi is up and running. This is free to you. All of the bugs have been worked out of the system and is running very well. Saybrook boat club recently installed a new web cam closer to the marina approximately 4-5 miles east of Geneva Marina near Redbrook boat club. To access this site, go to www.lakevision.com and look for the camera map. Run the cursor over any dot to get the location. The Ashtabula dot shows the view from this new location. Channel NewsThe Channel dredging is complete. Huffman Contracting is the same company that dredged two years ago. They were in and out of the marina in a record breaking three weeks. They had great weather and definitely took advantage of it. There are continued talks by ODNR to repair the west wall and a sand by-pass system. Spring Line Your Boats For SafetyThere have been some challenges keeping bow pulpits from hanging over the docks. For those who have bow pulpits, please spring line your boats so that they do not hang over the docks. It is a safety hazard. Please look at the front of your boat and make sure (by pulling your boat forward after it is tied) that it does not hit the dock and/or the dock box. Hitting the dock box will not only damage the box, but will strip the holes that keep the dock box in place. We suggest using a spring line to keep your boat from hitting the dock or box. If you need assistance, please let us know here in the marina shop. Dock CartsDock carts are available for all dock holders. In an ongoing effort to keep them available, please return the carts as soon as you are finished so they are available to your follow dockers and so the dock areas are unobstructed. Dock Box Rentals & InstallationCorner dock boxes are available for rent. We have a limited number, so please reserve them early. For those who own dock boxes and need to re-install them, please remember to leave the bolt up one inch. If you cinch them down your dock box will break. The dock box needs to move a little with the dock finger as swells occur in the marina. Please look for the holes already created for the box. Please do not drill new holes. If there is a problem please contact us for assistance. Mylar StickersMylar stickers need to be on your dock and your boat when you put your boat in the water.
